Chris qualified a solicitor in 2001 but has a wealth of legal experience behind him. Immediately after leaving college he worked for North Yorkshire County Council Legal Services with the child care team. He became the team representative at the Legal Services Practice Development Group designed to implement the Best Value and Competitive Tendering government initiatives and received published commendations for research and client care.
He then worked on the Government Public Enquiry into the BSE crisis following the outbreak of variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. This was followed by administrative positions at Lambeth County Court and G & R Colley solicitors then a brief spell at Southwark Mediation Centre split between mediation of council housing disputes and assisting in teaching basic mediation to children in local schools.
He obtained a training contract at Lawrence & Co Solicitors (Battersea) and qualified in August 2001. Since qualification he has worked exclusively in criminal law and has experience of a wide range of offences from motoring to murder including immigration offences and has handled a significant amount of youth court cases.
Chris became a duty solicitor in January 2004 covering central and south London courts and police stations and obtained supervisor status in August the same year. He went on to mentor the firm's police station representatives and newly qualified solicitor whilst focusing on developing his trial advocacy.
Late in 2006 Chris turned down the offer of partnership and instead came to Birds Solicitors where he is a senior in-house duty solicitor. He has a mixed caseload including magistrates and youth court matters as well as Crown Court and appellate cases. He was responsible for the first case to be brought under Part 3 of the Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Act 2004 involving the prosecution of a mother for leaving her infant in the care of her partner who went on to murder the child ("familial homicide").
Chris is now part way through his higher court advocate exams for both civil and criminal proceedings and is working towards being called to the Canadian Bar.
He is originally from Wakefield but now lives with his wife in south London. He graduated with honours from Leicester University.
